Job Description

Position Description:

Night & Weekend Dispatch

Northlake, IL | On-Site | Full-Time | Night and Weekend Schedules

Why Join CDN Logistics?

Founded in 1998, CDN Logistics, Inc. is a dynamic transportation and logistics company providing service throughout the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This role provides an opportunity to become a trusted operational resource within a growing transportation organization. Your decisions will directly support our drivers, protect customer commitments, and help ensure a successful transition from one operating day to the next.

At CDN Logistics, our drivers mean the world to us. The Night & Weekend Transportation Tracking Coordinator plays an important role in fulfilling that commitment by ensuring drivers have a capable, responsive partner whenever they are on the road.

If you are an experienced transportation professional who thinks ahead, works well independently, communicates effectively, and takes pride in solving problems when others are off the clock, we would like to hear from you.

At CDN, reliability, flexibility, and quality service rule the road. Our drivers mean the world to us, and we are committed to giving them the responsive, knowledgeable support they need—regardless of the hour.

About the Night & Weekend Dispatch Opportunity

Transportation does not stop when the traditional business day ends—and neither does our commitment to our drivers and customers.

CDN Logistics is seeking a knowledgeable and resourceful Night & Weekend Dispatcher to serve as an extension of our daytime Driver Management team. This individual will provide critical off-shift operational coverage by supporting over-the-road drivers, monitoring active shipments, communicating with customers, coordinating roadside maintenance, and resolving problems that could affect service.

It takes a special person to succeed in this role. The right candidate will be forward-thinking, independent, highly knowledgeable, and personable. You must be able to anticipate problems, make sound decisions with limited supervision, and remain calm when drivers and customers need immediate answers. This is an opportunity for an experienced transportation professional who takes ownership, communicates confidently, and understands that overnight decisions can determine the success of the following business day.

Night & Weekend Dispatch Work Schedule

This is specifically an off-shift position. Candidates must be prepared to work an assigned schedule that includes nights, weekends, and potentially holidays. Available or assigned schedules may include:

Monday through Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

Sunday through Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Wednesday through Sunday, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Friday through Monday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Schedules will be assigned based on operational needs. Flexibility to provide occasional coverage outside the regularly assigned schedule—including additional overnight or weekend hours—are required.

You are the face and voice of the shift and will support our drivers at all phases of their journey

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for over-the-road drivers during assigned night and weekend hours.
  • Respond promptly to calls involving load questions, fuel-card concerns, routing issues, road closures, severe weather, and other operational challenges.
  • Provide drivers with clear, professional, and practical guidance while maintaining a calm and supportive presence.
  • Coordinate after-hours maintenance and roadside assistance when equipment problems occur.

Monitor Shipments and Protect Service

  • Maintain visibility of active pickups and deliveries through regular driver communication, real-time location technology, telematics, and transportation-management systems.
  • Identify potential delays or service failures before they occur and take appropriate action to protect the shipment and customer commitment.
  • Communicate accurate and timely status updates to internal and external customers, particularly when pickup or delivery schedules may be affected.
  • Document overnight activity and prepare a complete, actionable turnover for the daytime Driver Managers.

Resolve After-Hours Issues

  • Respond to truck breakdowns, delayed loads, missed pickups, missed deliveries, and other time-sensitive service concerns.
  • Coordinate load recovery or repowering when delays or equipment problems threaten service.
  • Evaluate available information, determine priorities, and escalate serious or unresolved matters to the appropriate operational leader.
  • Notify the Safety Department promptly of accidents, motorist complaints, or other safety-related events.
  • Maintain composure and sound judgment during emergencies and high-pressure situations

Support Safety and Compliance

  • Monitor driver activity for compliance with Department of Transportation requirements and Hours of Service regulations.
  • Avoid directing or permitting activity that could place a driver, the public, the shipment, or CDN Logistics at risk.
  • Recognize potential safety or compliance concerns and escalate them promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of driver communications, shipment updates, maintenance events, and significant off-shift decisions.

What We Are Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two or more years of transportation, logistics, dispatch, driver support, or related customer-service experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of truckload or over-the-road transportation operations strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and Hours of Service requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solutions-focused during stressful or rapidly changing situations.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to make timely decisions with limited supervision.
  • Forward-thinking approach with the ability to anticipate service problems and initiate corrective action.
  • Personable and confident communication style when working with drivers, customers, maintenance providers, and internal leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accurate documentation and shift turnover.
  • Comfort working with transportation-management systems, real-time tracking and telematics platforms, maintenance software, email, and multiline telephone systems.
  • Dependability and consistent attendance, particularly during nights, weekends, holidays, and periods of severe weather or increased operational demand.

We take care of our people the way they take care of our customers. Our benefits and rewards are designed to support your health, family, and future.

  • Comprehensive benefits—medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; details on coverage and shared costs are reviewed during the interview process. Benefits are offered as a shared-cost program to balance affordability with sustainable, high-quality coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match to help you plan for long-term financial security
